What's going on?
Friday 31, July, 2020 ...
A hard working crew have been busy at the club sprucing up the surrounds, ditches, drains, edges, and many other tasks, such as pressure washing the main paving area. The place is spotless, and the tremendous tidy up is greatly appreciated during the Covid Lockdown 2020.

Bowls Scotland May Statement for clubs
Saturday 1, August, 2020 ...
Statement by Bowls Scotland (11/05/2020):

Following on from Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s announcement on Thursday 7th May, Bowls Scotland are reinforcing to all our clubs that your greens must remain closed for play. The message is still clear – stay at home and save lives.

We are continuing to work closely with the Scottish Government, Scottish Sports Association and sportscotland to put in place the appropriate planning for bowls to return safely when restrictions on lockdown are eased in Scotland.

All District Secretaries have been invited to online forums this week to discuss and help create guidance for our clubs on preparing for play. You can give your clubs views on how best to get back to playing our sport by contacting your District Secretary.

Bowls Scotland CEO, Alan McMillan, said:

“I understand the importance of our sport to many bowlers across the country, and the eagerness to return to the green as soon as possible. However, that can only happen when it is safe to do so and the focus at present must be to follow the current measures and slow the spread of the virus, protect the NHS and save lives.

We will update our members and clubs as soon as the Scottish Government agrees a plan on a safe return to bowls and sport as a whole. I would like to thank all our members and clubs for their continued support in following the necessary guidelines in such difficult times.”

COVID-19 - May update
Wednesday 30, December, 2020 ...
Dear Member

Just a little update. In a previous e-mail I mentioned that we had applied for a Government Grant but had received a reply stating we did not fit criteria.

Since then the Government have reviewed small business grants and we received a further email stating that we would now be receiving the grant.

This is great news for the club.

With the money we have received from our members and the grant of £10,000 this will help the club to survive through this situation.

Again, on behalf of the committee, can I thank you all for your support.

As you may be aware the club will be closed until further notice. All functions and events have been cancelled.

These are uncertain times for us all. Due to restrictions in place we will be unable to hold the fees nights but unfortunately we are asking members to support the club by paying fees as requested. You can renew your membership online and If you have access to online banking you can pay to Treasurers Account, Bankton Mains Bowling Club. Account number 00432365 sort code 80-08-80. Payment can also be made by cheque which can be posted to the club or if you are within walking distance, and out on your daily walk, just drop through the letter box.

If it would help members to pay by direct debit, again this can be set up through online banking, if you have access to this. If you can pay anything from £10 to £20 per month this would be greatly appreciated. Again if are going to do this please let me know.

We have been looking at the regular bills which we are required to pay and how much this will cost us a month. These monthly outgoings are in region of £1500. We have been looking at ways to reduce these payments.

We have checked the club insurance, and although we have a specified disease cover this does not cover any new pandemics. Apparently insurance companies changed their wording of policies following the Sars and E-Boli epidemics.

We received notification from Bowls Scotland and they will refund all Capitation and competition fees. They have said that they may be able to help out clubs financially if need be but as there are over 900 clubs in Scotland it would be their decision as to which clubs would receive this help.

WLBA have said they are retaining fees that have been paid to them. We will be following up on this.

I am still waiting to here back from Pro Turf, who maintain our green to see if they will be in a position to continue with this work, or if they will have to stop. This is our highest monthly outlay.

The committee would like to thank all the members who have paid so far. We do not know how long these restrictions will be in force or if the will become more severe. Please be assured that the committee are doing our best to keep the club going in light of the restrictions imposed.

We can only hope and pray for the time we will all be able to get back together, enjoy a game of bowls, have a wee drink, game of bingo and the quiz nights..... I will now have a bit of time on my hands to work on these quiz questions.

For those members who feel totally isolated, or have trouble getting out to the shops. Or just want a wee chat please feel free to contact me on 07719910630. Morris can also be contacted on 07912270777.

You can still email secretary@banktonmains.co.uk. We can access this remotely but we are unable to do group emails from home.

You will also be updated via our Facebook page and web site at www.banktonmains.co.uk.

Please stay safe
